Description

This table was requested to provide data on the NEET population - Not in Education, Employment or Training. See the Notes for methodology on NEET calculations.

Notes

Using this table, the NEET population should include those who are Unemployed as well as those who are Not in the labour force. Both the Unemployed and Not in the labour force group should also be crossed with the Did not attend school variable. These data will not produce the same NEET rates as those produced using data from the Labour Force Survey (LFS).

Using the LFS, Labour Force division at Statistics Canada calculates NEET using the OECD concept for NEET:

  • NEET includes Not in Labour Force and Unemployed (both not in school)
  • OECD does not consider people students if they fall into an "Other" category of schooling that does not provide credit towards a degree. Schooling options with the LFS include Primary, Secondary, Post-secondary and Other. Statistics Canada has indicated that this adjustment typically only has a small change on the NEET rate (~1% at the national level).
  • Statistics Canada averages the data for the first three months of the year

Note that the variables in the Visible Minority and Aboriginal Status dimension do not add up to the Total population.
