Here are some Open Government news and updates!

Update on the Government of Canada’s Directive on Open Government

  • One of the key deliverables under the Directive on Open Government is for the Government of Canada to create inventories of data and information resources to determine their eligibility and priority for eventual release.
  • The first set of data inventories on open.canada.ca very soon. Users will be able to “vote” on datasets to help the Government prioritize what to release. 

Open Government Partnership (OGP) Global Summit

  • The Summit took place December 7-9, 2016 in Paris, France.  It was attended by leaders in open government from over 70 countries and hundreds of civil society members. Notably, the Summit featured the addition of Germany, Portugal, and Afghanistan, among others.
  • Canada’s official delegation was led by Treasury Board President Scott Brison, who participated in several sessions. Prime Minister Trudeau provided a video message as part of the opening ceremony.
  • Canada was proud to signal its intent to sign on to the international Open Data Charter, as well as endorse the Summit’s Paris Declaration and identify five areas for collective action.
  • Provincial colleagues in the Province of Ontario also participated in the Summit and released its own Action Plan on Open Government, as part of the an OGP sub-national pilot program.

    Canadian Open Data Summit (CODS) '17

    • The OGP Global Summit was a great opportunity to bring together leaders in open government from around the world. There's an opportunity to do the same for open data leaders in government, civil society, private sector, and academia in Canada!
    • The upcoming Canadian Open Data Summit will be held in Edmonton, AB, June 12-14, 2017.
